The Juliettes
By Sheri DeLoach • March 9, 2013
It was early spring, cloudy, and a cool afternoon. I was at home, retired from my job, recovering from an episode of clinical depression. I felt empty and unmotivated and alone. Sometime during the afternoon, a box of Juliette tomato plants were left on my patio! I knew who left them and not surprised as she knew my love of gardening and growing this particular type of tomato. She has potted them in larger pots and left instructions to let them grow good white roots before putting them in the garden soil. For several days, I just looked out the patio glass doors and did nothing with the little seedlings. I asked God to give me motivation to plant a spring garden this year with an humble spirit. He answered my prayer and gradually I began to gather interest in planning my garden and prepared a special area for the Julianna's! I believe that God had a plan for my life and it was brought to me by a sweet friend who knew that growing tomatoes was a way to reach my inner soul and it brought life again.
When you are down and feeling blue, feeling depressed, feeling forgotten, feeling hopeless,...remember how God works through other people to bring life and lift depression that can hold it's victims in it's grips. The Lord Jesus did not intend for his followers to suffer depression and there are ways to defeat it! By God's Grace and Mercy and my friend, I did.
