This Is What Happens When Tourists Climb The Sacred Mount Tai In China
April 19, 2024
Mount Tai is one of the five sacred mountains in China. It is associated with sunrise, birth, and renewal. Because of its sacred importance and dramatic landscape, it was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.
Along the ascent there are many beautiful carvings of scripture and poems that played an important role in the development of both Buddhism and Taoism. Some of them are quite tall, as tall a 50 feet. There are several temples along the way and at the top a complex of temples.
The mountain is 1,500 meters high. To reach its summit - without taking a cable car - tourists face an impressive challenge: climbing 7,200 steps, which can take 4-6 hours to complete.
🧗 pic.twitter.com/umD2amHN0g
